“What is the exact population of Nigeria? I don't know, neither does the government, it's all based on an estimate.

How many children passed due to malaria in the last 24hrs? No one knows, the system can only provide estimated figures that are based on nothing.

When you discharge a patient who hasn't settled their bills, how are you going to get back your money? It'your word against theirs, that's literally how it is.

A Nigerian could relocate to a different city after committing terrible crimes in another and live peacefully there like nothing ever happened because there is probably no accurate data on him anywhere, he can't be traced.

Tracking criminals down is a very difficult process even for the police.

Do you know there are some police stations where you might not find any computer, everything is on manual? written down on paper.

It is quite easy to disappear in Nigeria.

You don't have to worry about being seen as long as you stay far from the places you don't want to be found.

Which was one of the reasons the US banned Nigerians because you can't provide real data on the individual, you can't tell with all certainty that this person hasn't committed terrible crimes.

Hospitals need money to keep treating people. Many government hospitals are poorly funded and some of them only use these monies to procure more medical equipment.

In the end, the blame boils down to the government for not automating all aspects of the country for easy flow of information.

Data helps uncover the truth and, in Nigeria, it has been better for the people that run the country for data not to be available.” - Victor Dirikebamor, Quora
