    ECONS THEORY AND OBJ ANS

    4a)
    Trade union is an organized association of workers in a trade, group of trades, or profession, formed to protect and further their rights and interests

    4b)

    i )Trade Unions working for the Progress of the Employees:

    The trade unions try to improve the economic conditions of the workers by representing their cases to the employers and try to get adequate bonus to the workers.

    ii) Safeguarding the Interests of the Workers:

    Most of the industries try to exploit the workers to the maximum. They do not provide any benefits such as increasing their wages, granting sick leaves, giving compensation in case of accidents, etc. The workers are not made permanent even after many years of service and in some cases they are removed from service summarily. The trade unions provide security to the employees in such situations.

    iii) Increasing Co-operation and Well-being among Workers:

    It is in this context that the trade unions come into the picture and they promote friendliness and unity among the workers. Besides this, the trade unions also discuss the problems, which are common to all the workers. It is a platform where workers come together and know each other. The trade unions also provide some kind of entertainment and relaxation to the workers.

    Iv )Establishing Contacts between the Workers and the Employers:

    The trade unions play an important role in bringing to the notice of the employers the difficulties and grievances of the employees. They try to arrange face-to-face meetings and thus try to establish contacts between the employees and the employers.

    8a) Elasticity of supply is measured as the ratio of proportionate change in the quantity supplied to the proportionate change in price

    8b)
    i )Possibility of Substitution:
    The change in supply in response to the change in price depends on the possibility of substitution of a product for others. If the market price of potato rises, resources will be shifted from there cultivation like tomato and employed in the cultivation of potato. The greater the possibility of shifting of resources to the potato cultivation, the greater is the elasticity of supply of potato.

    ii )Infrastructural facilities:
    The expansion of supply of a commodity also depends on the availability of productive facilities and inputs. The agricultural producer can not increase in response to the rise in price unless there is sufficient flow of fertilizers, irrigation etc. In case of industrial goods the expansion of supply is inhibited by the shortage of power, fuel and the essential raw materials.

    iii )Producers response:
    The elasticity of supply for a product depends on the producers’ responsiveness to the change in its price. The quantity supplied of a commodity will not change if the producers do not react positively to the increase in prices. Producers do not always increase the quantity supplied of a commodity to a rise in price.

    iv )Marginal Cost:
    Elasticity of supply of a commodity depends on the marginal cost of production. The elasticity of supply of a commodity would be less if the marginal cost of production goes up. In the short run, diminishing marginal returns operates as some factors are fixed. This gives rise to expansion of marginal cost of production.

    7a)A tariff is a tax imposed by a government on goods and services imported from other countries that serves to increase the price and make imports less desirable, or at least less competitive, versus domestic goods and services

    7b)
    i )Infant Industries
    ii ) National Defense
    iii ) Domestic Employment
    Iv ) Aggressive Trade Practices
    V ) Environmental Concerns

    10a) Production is incomplete without distribution because the main aim of production is to satisfy human wants. When the link between the producers and the consumers is absent, then the aim is defected.

    10b) Factors that affect the volume of production are;

    I. The quantity and quality of factors of production (I.e land, labor, capital and entrepreneur). For example, amount of capital determines the labor to be hire and raw materials to be bought.

    ii. The size of market: This is the extent to which the products are demand.

    Iii. The nature of the product: If the goods are durable in nature, more can be produced and stored. Perishable goods have to be produced based on the ones that can be sold at that time since they cannot be stored for a long time.

    iv) Availability of raw materials: This will determine the quantity of good to be produced.

    v) Government policy: This has to do with the nature of economic policy of the government. The more favorable the government economic policy, the more they volume of goods to be produced and vice versa

    1b) Tabulate:
    Year | Cocoa | Crops palm oil | Cotton | Total(#)
    1970 | 100 | 150 | 250 | 500
    1971 | 150 | 75 | 225 | 450
    1972 | 250 | 200 | 150 | 600

    Total = #1550m
    =#1.55b

    1c) Percentage = 150/600 * 100
    = ¼ * 100
    = 25%

    1d) Degree = palm oil expert in 1971 * 360°
    Total expert in 1971
    = 75/450 * 360°
    = 60°

    2a)
    A = 15
    B =15 + 13 = 28
    C = 20/3 = 6.7
    D = 40 – B = 40 – 28 = 12
    E 70/4 = 17.5
    F = 20/5 = 4
    G = 17 * 6 = 102
    H = 82 – 60 = 22
    I = 113/7 = 16.1
    J = 19.5 * 8 = 156

    2b) Draw the Graph

    2c) As output rises, the AFC decreases and the curve the represents it would slope downward from left to right.

    ENGLISH LETTER WRITING ANSWER
    3)write a story that best illustrates the saying: A leopard cannot change its spots

    3)
    The leopard is identified and has exclusivity only because of its spots. Similarly we cannot change the basic characteristic that one is endowed with. It may seem to disappear from time to time but will soon resurface. This can be explained with the following story from the Panchatantra.
    Once there was a jackal that went to a village in search of food and accidentally fell into a tub containing blue colour dye. The jackal looked pretty strange since it was blue in colour and all the animals in the forest ran away in fright. The animals in the forest called for a meeting to discuss about strange looking animal – not realizing that it was only the Jackal.

    They unanimously decided to keep away from the blue creature.
    The cunning jackal decided to take advantage of the situation and declared that he was sent to earth by God to rule over as the King of the forest and asked all the animals to obey him. The frightened animals agreed immediately. The jackal was scared that his fellow jackals might find out his true identity and banished all of them from the kingdom.
    The poor jackals had nowhere to go and were very upset. They guessed that the strange blue creature was indeed a jackal and wanted to teach him a lesson for treating his fellow beings so badly.

    They came up with a plan. The oldest and wisest of them said. “Let us all howl collectively. If he is a jackal then he cannot resist his innate nature and he too will start howling.” All these jackals waited for an opportunity to reveal the natural characters of the Blue Jackal to other animals in the forest. As waited for, the opportunity came for their help.
    So one day when the Blue Jackal was presiding over his court, all the banished jackals started howling together. The Blue jackal forgot for a moment that IT was THE King and responded immediately. When the other animals realized that they had been cheated by the cunning jackal they pounced on him and chased him away.

    However the jackal tried to cheat other animals in the forest, the fact it was nothing but only a jackal came to light for the simple reason that the jackal could not conceal its natural tendency.
    The leopard can not change his spots.

    1a)
    God told Moses he would get glory over Pharaoh and prove that the Lord is God. After the Hebrews left Egypt, the king changed his mind and was angry that he had lost his source of slave labor. He summoned his 600 best chariots, all the other chariots in the land, and marched his massive army in pursuit. The Israelites seemed to be trapped. Mountains stood on one side, the Red Sea in front of them. When they saw Pharaoh's soldiers coming, they were terrified. Grumbling against God and Moses, they said they would rather be slaves again than die in the desert. Moses answered the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still." The angelof God, in a pillar of cloud, stood between the people and the Egyptians, protecting the Hebrews. Then Moses stretched his hand out over the sea. The Lord caused a strong east wind to blow all night, parting the waters and turning the sea floor into dry land. During the night, the Israelites fled through the Red Sea, a wall of water to their right and to their left. The Egyptian army charged in after them. Watching the chariots race ahead, God threw the army into a panic, clogging their chariot wheels to slow them down. Once the Israelites were safe on the other side, God commanded Moses to stretch out his hand again. As morning returned, the sea rolled back in, covering the Egyptian army, its chariots and horses. Not one man survived.

    i)God allows us to be in these hard places to see whether we will believe Him or trust in Him or whether we will try to squire our way out by our own strength.
    ii)To Israel, the sea is a picture of death and when they were looking death squarely in the face in the form of the Egyptian army and the sea behind them, all they could do was to turn to God but this is the point.
    iii)God wants us to exercise our faith because a faith that is never tested can never be trusted. He desires that we turn to Him when we are faced with similar situations like Israel was facing.

    And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.

    James, Christians should count it all joy, when they go through difficulties because it tests their faith. He said when faith is tested it produces steadfastness which makes people perfect and complete, and lack nothing. He taught that if anybody lacks wisdom, that person must ask God. He assured that God would give it to him/her without holding back, because God is generous with such things. James wrote that whoever asked from God must ask in faith, not doubting because a person who doubts is like the wave of the sea, that is, driven and tossed by the wind. That person would not receive anything from the Lord. James also taught that the lowly brother must be allowed to boast in his exaltation and the rich also in his humiliation, because they will pass away like the grass or flower. Just as the beauty of the flower can wither away under the Sun, so also the rich man would perish away while pursuing his business. James wrote that if anyone was suffering, that person should pray and if any was cheerful that person, that person should sing praise. He said if any was sick, that person should call the elders of the church to pray over him, anoint him with oil in the name of the lord and the prayer of faith would save that sick person. The Lord will raise him up and if he had committed sins, the Lord will forgive him. James told the members to confess their sins to one another and pray for them to be healed. James taught that the prayers of a righteous man has power and is effective.

    Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a leper. And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman's wife.
    And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy. And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel. And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment. And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, Now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have therewith sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy. And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man doth send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy? wherefore consider, I pray you, and see how he seeketh a quarrel against me.
    And it was so, when Elisha the man of God had heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.
    So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha. And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean. But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.

    Kabria’s Encounter with Fofo
    In sharp contrast to the life in Sodom and Gomorrah is Kabria’s life with her family. A mother of three lively children- Obea, Essie and Ottu, she lived in a decent neighbourhood in Accra, worked with MUTE a non-governmental agency and drove a problematic old car nick-named Creamy. She ran into Fofo at the Agbloghoshie market while shopping for vegetables. Kabria was standing with other spectators at the spot where Baby T’s body was found when Fofo, disguising as a boy tried to steal her purse. Kabria rescued her from the angry mob. Fofo revealed her female identity and told Kabria that Baby T was her sister. Meanwhile, a lot of people had been made to believe that the dead girl (Baby T) was a kayayoo(a market porter from the north) to conceal her true identity and discourage further enquiry into her death. MUTE (the non-governmental organisation where Kabria worked) got interested in Baby T’s matter and granted Fofo protection by taking her into custody temporarily while conducting investigations into the circumstances surrounding.

On her way to spy on Isabella, Bianca witnesses a giant hand in armorthat scares her and causes her to inadvertently reveal Manfred’s bribe to Frederic. She often provides comic relief in an otherwise melodramatic story.

    - Physical Supply Of Products
    Transportation carries necessary raw materials to factory for production of goods and supplies finished goods to consumers. It creates place and time utility of goods by transporting from one place to another. It easily carries finished to the hands of those who need and use them. This significantly increases aggregate sales of goods. In fact, transport is such a key of marketing, which helps in carrying goods to the scattered consumers in different places, narrows the gap between producers and consumers and facilitates to distribute goods to the consumers at minimum cost and time.

    - Specialization
    Transportation facility encourages division of labor and specialization on geographical or regional basis. Transportation cost highly affects localization of industries. Production of goods may center at such place where the environment is the best and production cost is minimum. This makes maximum utilization of local resources possible, which is both economically and socially necessary.

    - Mobility Of Labor And Capital
    Transportation facility provides mobility to labor and capital. If more labor force is available at any place, transport helps to carry it economically to necessary place. The means of transport carry labors from one place to another. This encourages labor and capital to use and invest in more productive sectors.

    - Stabilization In Price
    Transportation helps to bring stability in price of different products. It transports goods from more supplied places to scarcely supplied areas. This establishes coordination between demand and supply, and brings stability in prices. It helps to supply necessary goods regularly to the consumers. Besides this,
    consumers get necessary goods at lower prices, because it encourages competition among producers and makes mass production at lower cost possible.

    ========================

    3a)
    i)Raw materials:industries must be located near the source of raw materials
    ii)Availability of labour:industries are to be located where there are abundant labour supply
    iii)Nearness to market:industries must be sited very close to market
    iv)Power:industries must be sited where there will be constant supply of electricity
    v)Good road network:the road network linking the market and the industry must be good

    3b)
    i)It help to improve standard of living
    ii)It help to provide job opportunity
    iii)it help to develop the infrastructure
    v)it help in diversification of the economy

    ii)It helps in capital formation
    iii)it encourages the development of science and technology
    iv)It helps in stimulation of others sector
    v)it helps to control inflation due to mass production

    - 4. Labor:
    Due to high levels of unemployment in Nigeria, unskilled labor is usually available throughout the region. Therefore, firms requiring skilled and semi-skilled labor will have to locate themselves in the already established industrial centers in major towns or be prepared to undertake intensive training programmes.

    5b)Tin Mining Process:
    Tin is extracted by roasting the mineral casseterite with carbon in a furnace to approximately 2500 degrees Fahrenheit. The next step involves leaching with acid or water solutions to remove impurities. Electrostatic or magnetic separation helps to remove any heavy metal impurities.

    5c-Industrial development
    -Increase in employment
    - Agricultural development
    - Source of energy
    - Development of self dependency

    - Industrial development :
    If the mineral resources can be extracted and utilized , mineral based industries can be established and expanded . Petrol , diesel , iron , coal, etc. are minerals for industries . This accelerates the industrial development.

    - Increase in employment:
    The existence of mineral resource provides employment opportunity to the people. Mineral resources help to establish the new industries where skilled and unskilled people can get employment opportunity.

    - Agricultural development :
    Some mineral resources are used to make modern agricultural tools machines and fertilizers , etc. They can be used for the modernization and commercialization of agriculture , which help to develop the agriculture .

    - Source of energy:
    There are various sources of energy like petrol , diesel , natural gas, etc. in Nepal. If these minerals can be extracted, they can provide the necessary energy for industrial sectors and house hold use.

    - Development of self dependency :
    If we develop mineral resource based industries , we can create more jobs with quality products . We will be independent when industrialization occurs with the uses of mineral resources.

    =======================

    (6b) Agriculture - Most of the people living in the area engage in the domestication of animals and cultivation of land - due to the presence of fertile soil.

    PART IV - TARIKH
    7)
    Muhammad Mustafa (may God bless him and his Ahlul-Bait), shared all the sorrows and afflictions of his followers who were being persecuted for believing that “God is One”, but he had no means to protect them. When the violence of the polytheists against the Muslims didn't show any sign of de-escalating, he suggested to them to leave Makkah and to seek sanctuary in Abyssinia (Ethiopia) which was then ruled by a Christian king, well-known for being a just and God-fearing man. Following this suggestion, a group of Muslims,comprising eleven men and four women, left Makkah and went to Abyssinia. The group included Uthman bin Affan, a future khalifa of the Muslims; his wife, Ruqayya; and Zubayr bin al-Awwam, a cousin of the Prophet. The Prophet appointed Uthman bin Mazoon, one of his principal companions, as the leader of this group.
    The first migration took place in the fifth year of the Proclamation – in A.D. 615.
    The king of Abyssinia welcomed the Muslim refugees from Makkah into his kingdom. He gave them sanctuary, and they enjoyed peace, security and freedom of worship under his aegis. About a year later, the Muslims in Abyssinia heard rumors that the Quraysh in Makkah
    had accepted Islam. If it was true then there was no reason for them to live in exile. They were homesick, and they decided to return to Makkah. But when
    they arrived in Makkah, they found out that not only the rumors they had heard were false, but also that the Quraysh had stepped up the persecution of the Muass.

    Theory!!

    Pls let note there are four questions in section A and four from Section B.

    Section A:
    1a
    -Most people get the virus by having unprotected sex with someone who has HIV.
    -Another common way of getting it is by sharing drug needles with someone who is infected with HIV.
    -The virus can also be passed from mother to her baby during pregnancy, birth, or
    breastfeeding .

    -From blood transfusions. In some cases, the virus may be transmitted through blood transfusions.

    b)
    -Fever.
    -Sore throat.
    -Severe Headache .
    -Muscle aches and joint pain.
    -Swollen glands (swollen lymph nodes ).
    -Skin rashes
    -Nosea

    2a) Human trafficking is the trade of humans, most commonly for the purpose of forced labour, sexual slavery, or commercial sexual exploitation for the trafficker or others.
    b)
    -LACK OF OPPORTUNITIES/UNEMPLOYMENT: There is no gain saying the fact that most people who give their
    consent to be trafficked did so believing there are better
    opportunities at destination which goes to say that the origin
    countries had limited or no opportunities for its citizenry.

    -IGNORANCE/ILLITERACY: It is said that knowledge is power. Those who are not aware of the
    ills and effects of human trafficking are more susceptible to fall
    prey to the traffickers than the others. Information on trafficking
    empowers people to be on guide and take measures to avoid
    being a victim.

    -SITUATION OF ARMED CONFLICT: Armed conflict is a two edged sword. On the part of origin or
    source victims would be willing to escape from the conflict area
    thereby becoming vulnerable. On the other hand, destination
    countries in conflict or war would demand for victims to help them.

    GLOBALISATION
    The world they say is a global village and as such recruitment has
    been made easy. The vulnerable only knows that his chance of
    survival economically is higher in developed societies.

    -GREED
    : The get rich quick syndrome has eaten deep into the minds of the
    young people in developing countries. Unfortunately, the society
    pays little emphasis on the source of wealth of their people making
    the youths eager to find ways to acquire wealth and be celebrated.

    DESIRE TO EARN A LIVING
    : In Nigeria and most other African countries for instance, where
    person will graduate from the university and remain unemployed
    3 to 4 years without any form of employment would not want to miss any opportunity that he feels will eliminate his desire to earn
    a meaningful living.

    Section B:
    5a)
    Citizenship is the status of a person recognized under the custom or law as being a legal member of a sovereign state or part of a nation .

    5b)
    i) Citizenship by Birth ( jus sanguinis). If one or both of a person's parents are citizens of a given state, then the person may have the right to be a citizen of that state as well

    ii)Citizenship by Registration
    A person can be a citizen of a country through registration. This mostly occurs to women who marry foreign nationals. For instance, a Gambian woman married to a Nigerian may register as a citizen of Nigeria but she must satisfy certain conditions such as residing in Nigeria and should take the oath of allegiance to Nigeria and renounce her Gambian citizenship.

    iii) Citizenship by Naturalization
    This is another way through which an individual can acquire citizenship in a country. Through this method, the individual must satisfy certain basic conditions such as in the case of Nigeria, the individual must have lived in Nigeria for not less than 15 years, he must have a job, he must be an honourable person, that is, not a criminal and must be recommended by a very important person in the country.

    iv)Citizenship by Descent
    This is a method of acquiring citizenship of another country as a result of the fact that his grandparents are citizens of the country.

    7a)
    Civil society refers to any non-governmental entity formed by a group of people with similar interests who come together to work on a common goal

    7b)
    i)Civil society makes state at all level to be accountable, responsive and to be more effective. They help to limit and control the power of the state

    ii)It promotes political participation through the process of educating people about the about their rights and obligations as democratic citizen and also encourage them to participate in election.

    iii)Building community; engagement and participation in voluntary associations also has the potential to strengthen bonds among citizens.

    iv)Socialization; civil society contributes to the formation and practice of democratic attitudes among citizens. Thus people learn to develop tolerance, mutual trust and the ability to relate with people.

    v)It can also help to play an important role in meditating and helping to resolve conflict.

    8a) It a
    refers to the procedure of involving majority of the citizens of a country in the decision making processes, especially on issues that affect the welfare of the generality of the populace.

    b)
    -Bad Governance: The government of Nigeria for instance rules in a bad and carefree manner, their act does not motivate people thereby making people to ignore and nonchalant to political activities.

    -Rigging of election: so many citizens belief that no matter the level of security election are going to be rigged either directly or indirectly thereby they see voting as a waste of time and energy.

    -Past History of Political Occurrence: Due to the fact that some family members, friends and relatives have been victimized in the process of participating in political issues, because of this experience people decide not to participate in politics.

    -Violent Campaign: Sometimes, the way political parties carry out their carry out their campaigns appears too violent and this can lead to lack of interest in politics.
