How To Control App Internet Access On Android

How to limit apps internet access on android has become a necessity as our smartphones have become part of our daily life, so have we made it the go-to device for anything we want to do especially a quick internet access , quick email replies and some other things. This is because our smartphones have successfully replace lots of other devices that could be used to complete these tasks. But, doesn’t this come with a price? of course it does since most of these apps now have internet access and sometimes access the internet without our knowledge at the end draining our limited data subscription. How then do we solve this? If not by limiting android apps internet access, this in itself is a live saver as it’ll ensure our unused limited data subscription don’t get used up by apps, this is worse when we don’t know what it’s actually doing, the said app might be sending our personal information to some server located somewhere in the world. That is the more reason you should know
How To Limit Android Apps Internet Access

Don’t worry at the end of this post, you’ll have all that is needed to limit android apps internet access easily withtout root or some other complicated tricks.
That being said we’d have to get down to the business of today below

How To Control Android Apps Internet Access

Just like most other android tricks/tips/how-to, to have full control over your android apps internet access on your android phone or be able to limit android apps internet access on your smartphone you’ll some specific android app that’ll do the magic by giving you full access and control over the internet access on your android.
In this case of gaining full access/control and limiting android apps internet access we’ll be using NetGuard, an android app that advertises itself as a ‘no-root firewall’. A firewall serves as a barrier between your android device and unauthorized access and that is basically what NetGuard does acting as a third party firewall and through it we’ll be able to limit and control our android apps internet access. Download and install NetGuard from the link I provided ealier.

After installing you’d get the first page like the one below, accept the agreement by clicking ‘agree’

After accepting, you’d be shown a list of all the apps installed on your android, but first you’d have to turn on NetGuard by tapping the toggle button at the top left corner of the app, you’d get a warning that NetGuard would act as a VPN tap ‘Ok’ to proceed.

Depending on the version of Android your running, the app might ask you to disable battery optimizations for it. This is a feature of some versions of Android that allows apps to be stopped and killed at will to conserve battery. Since NetGuard needs to be running at all times to manage your connection, it needs this particular option disabled. It shouldn’t affect other apps – simply tap the “OK” button below

Then in the following image below you’d see list of apps, search for NetGuard then tap on it and select don’t optimize.

After doing this you’d be taken back to the list of apps installed on your android, from here you can now start to control the internet access of every of the apps installed on your android. Each of the apps on the list has to icons to its right, the first relating to internet access via WiFi and the next is internet access via Mobile data connection, tapping each of the icons changes/toggles their status.
